Using the plugin « DRC-for Volumio »
I would like to show you how it is easy to obtain very good DRC filters in few click using the plugin.
But first of all, I want to remind you that the result will depend on the measure. A good measure is mandatory to get a good result ! So, do it several time to check if you get always the same result…
What you need
- a device running Volumio (of course!)
- the plugin installed : DRC For Volumio
- a PC running REW : REW
- a calibrated microphone
First step
Making a measure of your system.
Place the microphone at the listening point, pointing between speakers.
In REW, go to « Measure » and set like that
The go in the plugin, and use the menu « tools »
Press « start » in REW and then play left sweep in the plugin
REW should start recording the sweep. You can do it several times to check if you get at least twice the same result
...
Once you have a correct measure, you have to use « time align » to get a correct result
And export it from REW as wav, using the folliwing settings :
Do the same for both channels.
Now move the two files you just export in the share folder of Volumio/brutefirfilters/filters-sources
In impulse file to convert, select the left wav file.
Choose a target curve. This is text file that contains values to define the target curve you wish.
Choose a config. We sugest to start with « soft »
Give a file name for the result filter. If empty, the input name + sample rate+ config + target curve will be used a name.
Press « generate filter » and wait, about 1minute on a RPI3.
Repeat it for the other channel.
It’s done ! Now you have to use the filter you generated in the plugin :
Select it and apply !
Now you should have a DRC corrected system, and let see the result :
below, the measure of the system unfiltered
And now the result with calculated filters applied :
To do all these steps, it takes less than half an hours and need no special knowledges to get good results !
